The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern is unlike any book that I have ever read. Morgenstern limits herself to a black and white color pallet but manages to make the circus come alive in beautiful imagery. Although, at times she ‘tells’ more than she ‘shows’, she does a truly splendid job of engaging all of the sense. This atmospheric approach allows the reader to become completely engaged in the story.
Two young children become players in a deadly game between two master magicians. This game grows to impact the lives of everyone they know and puts at risk those they love most. This devastating game is wrapped in the magic of the most enchanting circus to ever exist. Slowly but surely this game becomes the love letters between them and destruction follows this deviation from the plan.
The readers are swept along with the magic of circus, the love between the players, and the enchantment of the crowd. Shifting perspective allows the reader to experience the circus in a variety of ways. Allow yourself the opportunity to be swept up in the magic of The Night Circus.
Mulled Apple Cider is the perfect drink for The Night Circus because it is a staple at the circus. As I was reading, I found myself craving mulled apple cider, caramel popcorn, and candy apples. I think you will find the same.
